PROGRAM
Klokken 19 starter workshop i begynderdans.

ENGLISH:
On Wednesday the 8th of February we welcome you to a new season of Nordisk Dans. This time you will be taught in a RHEINLÆNDERPOLKA!

Rheinlænderpolka is a traditional danish folkdance that most danes probably have seen, or done, sometime in their life. It is fun, bouncy and easy to learn – a real folkdance!
——–
We’re looking so much forward to welcoming you all to an evening of nice music, cold beer, and of course lots of dancing! This evening is planned as an open introduction to the wonderful world of the Nordic dance traditions, so knowing the dances or how to dance at all is by no means a requirement.
PROGRAM
19.00-20.00: Beginner friendly workshop
20.15-21.30: Open dancefloor with different Nordic dances
The event is for free and EVERYBODY is welcome – make sure to bring your friends!
This evening is arranged in collaboration with Studenterhus Aarhus, on Nordre Ringgade 3.
WHAT’S GOING TO HAPPEN?
At 19 o’clock we start with a beginners’ workshop. Some of the common Nordic dances will be taught to the sound of live, authentic folk music.
At 20.15 o’clock the musicians begin a real Nordic ball, where you get to try out what you’ve learned at the workshop. It’s going to be groovy, tender and really funny. Stay around even if you don’t feel like dancing, as the music and the mood is also worth experiencing on their own.
Refreshing drinks like beer and soda can be bought as well!
ABOUT THE CONCEPT NORDIC DANCING
The Nordic Folkdance tradition is thriving among young people like never before. It has been revitalized on festivals and events among young people in all of the Nordic countries, and the dances are both beautiful, challenging, rich in tradition and great fun.
The project Nordic Dancing Aarhus is by young people and for young people – everybody is welcome, no matter skill or experience. Nordic Dancing began in Copenhagen in October 2016, and this page represents the Aarhus branch of the project.
The crew behind Nordic Dancing are all part of the young folk music environment in Denmark and Sweden, and have learned to dance on nationwide folk music events and festivals (such as ROD and FOD), as well as the folk music conservatory in Esbjerg and Skurup Folkhögskola in Sweden.
We believe that Nordic folk dancing has a tremendous potential in Aarhus, and our goal is to host regular events in Aarhus for beginners and experienced dancers alike. We hope to create the framework for young people in the Aarhus area to dance Nordic folkdances on a more regular basis, so they won’t have to contend with learning and dancing on a few festivals a year.
The goals of Nordic Dancing are:
– To host evenings with beginners’ workshops so everybody gets the opportunity to learn the Nordic dances.
– Provide high quality live dance music.
– Host workshops for more experienced dancers looking for new challenges.
– Help shape a sense of community to spread awareness of the Nordic folk dances in Aarhus, seeing as the related musical traditions are becoming increasingly popular among young people.
