Gennem årene har bandet givet et utal af koncerter på scener i ind- og udland og spillet for et publikum, der tæller fans i alle aldre. Koncerterne er det levende bevis på, at Shades of Blue placerer sig i en kategori for sig.
Som det lyder i en anmeldelse fra Aarhus Jazz Festival:
”James Loveless synger med en ubesværet sjælfuldhed, fylde og timing, der er de færreste beskåret. Uffe Steen optræder opfindsomt og virtuost med den jazzede tilgang, der gør hans bluesspil ulig alle andres på den danske scene. Og Morten Brauner og Claus Daugaard er måske den bedste rytmesektion i dansk blues, med deres klippefaste og altid veloplagte melodiske spil og deres gode kontakt til solisterne.” (Bluesnews)
Shades of Blue’s helt særlige nerve og autenticitet er mere end intakt her mere end tre årtier efter, at bandet spillede sin første koncert.
Forsanger James Loveless er vokset op med blues og gospel i Florida. Rødderne slår ikke bare igennem, når han synger, men også i hans rolle som sangskriver. Hans stilsikre originalnumre med iørefaldende hook-lines er et stærkt og ægte bud på en respektfuld nytolkning af bluesen. Sangene giver gruppen et ekstra dynamisk gear og frirum til at ’lege’ ved koncerterne. Udover egne numre tager Shades of Blue også bluesklassikere fra mestre som Muddy Waters og Howlin’ Wolf under kærlig behandling.

This year marks 35 years since Shades Of Blue was formed. Over the years, the band has given countless concerts on stages at home and abroad and played for an audience that includes fans of all ages. The concerts are living proof that Shades of Blue places itself in a category of its own. As it sounds in a review from the Aarhus Jazz Festival:
“James Loveless sings with an effortless soulfulness, fullness and timing that few can match. Uffe Steen performs inventively and virtuosically with the jazzy approach that makes his blues playing unlike anyone else on the Danish scene. And Morten Brauner and Claus Daugaard are perhaps the best rhythm section in Danish blues, with their rock-solid and always well-arranged melodic playing and their good contact with the soloists.” (Blues News)
Shades of Blue’s very special nerve and authenticity is more than intact here more than three decades after the band played its first concert.
Lead singer James Loveless grew up with blues and gospel in Florida. The roots don’t just shine through when he sings, but also in his role as a songwriter. His stylish original tracks with catchy hook-lines are a strong and genuine bid for a respectful reinterpretation of the blues. The songs give the group an extra dynamic gear and freedom to ‘play’ at the concerts. In addition to their own tracks, Shades of Blue also lovingly treats blues classics from masters such as Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf.
