The workshop will be part technical work, part poetic exploration. Technical explorations develop functional physical awareness of self and other. We cultivate a relaxed, athletic soft power and availability for support and being supported through a combination of movement/lift vocabulary and exercises exploring principles of physical listening and intelligent adaptability. Poetic explorations investigate art-making and poetic sensibility in movement together. We develop tools and perspectives for distilling and diversifying our explorations of physical contact and use the metaphor of “poetry” in exploring moving together. The technical work is both a pleasure in itself and a tool for more refined art-making. Poetic work develops a sense of abandon and art making in sensory and mechanical process exploration together.

Bio: Karl Frost (US/Germany) has been exploring and teaching CI since the 1980s in California and has taught and performed in over 25 countries. He is devoted to deepening exploration in CI both as art practice and physical/experiential investigation. His performance work explores how we live and feel through our bodies and is rooted in somatic psychology explorations. He has developed an approach to functional awareness study, the Passive Sequencing work based in a combination of CI, release technique, and soft form martial arts. He continues to teach internationally and is currently based in Leipzig, Germany, where he works as a research anthropologist at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology. He has a BA in physics, and MFA in Dramatic Arts and PhD in Ecology, all from the University of California.
